In 21st century Nigeria, environmental professionals, consultants and other experts from corporate establishment have long be locked in a formative and strategic ends on how to get the best, reliable and most efficient solutions to Environmental problems including issues of household and agricultural pests around man and his dwellings. While in this contemplating and solution-seeking mood, CERPMIST emerged in Nigeria.
It was during the early hours of Friday 24th February, 2016 at the CERPMIST training centre in Port Harcourt: Best Western Hotel GRA Port Harcourt, where several reputable
environmental intellectuals, innovators and CEOs of establishments as well as consultants from within and outside the state gathered for a Breakfast Assembly of environmental Experts to discuss on “Issues and Challenges of Pest Management in Nigeria”.
During the breakfast session, Associate Prof. P.C. Mmom, a distinguished Lecturer of University of Port Harcourt and Former Chairman of Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Rivers State, expressed his satisfaction with CERPMIST - the Organizers of the Breakfast Assembly for coordinating such a beautiful and sensational programme that concerns the environment, saying “we have to keep training the minds of the people especially the younger generation to know how best to confront environmental issues”.
In that same vein, Prof. Hudson of Faculty of Agriculture, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt commended CERPMIST for carving a niche in world-class training on pest management, industrial sanitation and environmental data analysis. He added that, CERPMIST will help environmental consciousness, greener and safer fumigation and industrial sanitation practice in Nigeria. The intellectual icon also added that CERPMIST will close the long time lacuna that has existed in the state causing food poisoning, water contamination, indoor air pollution and other similar hazards that are concomitant effects of improper fumigation exercise in the environment.
In the spirit of exuberance, a distinguished Public Environmental Health Specialist,Lecturer and Consultant Mr. Edwin Isotu Edeh, whose ingenuity breathed life to the programme, thanked all intellectuals and CEOs of environmental industries and representatives of various professional bodies in Nigeria who attended the event. He equally urged participants of the Certified Pest Management Professionals practical course to remain focused and attentive in order to gain the needed practical knowledge for addressing rodent borne diseases in Nigeria.
The event was well –attended by seasoned Environmentalist from various Agencies, tertiary institutions and professional bodies including Dr. Victor Chucks Adaigbe, Chief Entomologist and Research Officer, NIFOR who is also the Edo State Chairman of Entomology Society of Nigeria, representatives of Chemical Society of Nigeria, NESREA and Association of Medical Laboratory Technicians and Assistants of Nigeria (AMELTAN), just to mention but a few
